“I don’t believe there is anyone more eager than Hamas to end the war. It has tried in every possible way to stop the war and its brutality, but the occupation’s intentions were clear: it wants the captives and the continuation of the war.
The people have endured unimaginable suffering—genocide, displacement, hunger, and death. Hamas used every card it had in negotiations with a global superpower to stop a genocidal war the modern world has never witnessed. It secured an agreement that stipulated a complete and total withdrawal from Gaza and an end to the war—but the occupation reneged on the deal and returned to pressuring Hamas by killing civilians from Gaza’s popular base.
Hamas, like others, has suffered extermination—its members and leaders, along with their families, have been wiped out—just as the people of Gaza and members of all Palestinian factions have been. No one wants the war to continue. Everyone wants it to end. No sane person supports its continuation. But the decision to end it is no longer in Palestinian hands. Even handing over the captives won’t stop it, because the project goes far beyond the issue of captives—it’s about the forced displacement of the Palestinian people.
A concession from Hamas won’t end the war; it may only change its pace while Israel continues to implement its plan of displacement.
Is there a single Palestinian, Arab, or international guarantor who can ensure that handing over the captives—even unconditionally—will end the war, lead to Israel’s withdrawal from Gaza, and stop the displacement? If such a true guarantor exists, I would be the first to call for concessions in negotiations.
But the truth is: there is no guarantor. We’ve seen this before in Lebanon, where Israel signed an agreement with the Lebanese state and then broke it. In Gaza, they signed and broke agreements. In Syria, they occupied part of the country based on false pretexts built on fear and outright lies. This occupation does not act in good faith.
O Allah, have mercy on our people, our resistance, and our families…”
