This idea presents numerous flaws.
1. Community Notes Isn’t Always Right.
For this venture to be successful, we must assume that Community Notes is ALWAYS correct.
This just isn’t true.
For example, in the past we’ve seen a Community Note literally claiming that Elon Musk had died.
Also, during the current situation in Palestine - Israel we’ve seen numerous situations where Community Notes have been added and removed.
For example:
The community note claiming that Ben Shapiro’s picture of a burnt baby was A.I was added and then removed.
The community note on Israel’s account claiming that they used fake blood was added and removed.
A lot of Community Notes are based purely on speculation and not fact.
This would make it unfair to remove monetization from a post that has been Community Noted based on speculation.
2. Added Context Community Notes
Some Community Notes don’t disprove claims made in a post, rather they just add context.
This does not equate to said post being false and therefore it doesn’t make sense to demonetize it.
3. Manipulation of Community Notes
As previously stated, Community Notes aren’t always correct, some are based purely on speculation and others can be implemented just to add context.
Community Notes are also written by users of X.
Users of X have natural biases.
And these biases can make one develop a severe dislike for a certain account.
This sets said account up to potentially being unfairly targeted by Community Notes for the sole reason of stopping that creator from monetizing of their work.
This would also become much easier if it was orchestrated by a group of Community Noters who had a profound dislike for a certain account.
This is why I believe demonetizing posts based solely on Community Notes is unfair and presents a wide range of ultimately negative consequences.
I, and I’m sure a lot of other creators, would ask for this decision to be rethought.
