Totalitarians tried once again to throttle free speech in the European Parliament this week. In a short address, FVD’s MEP Marcel de Graaff attacked as “propaganda” the claim that children are being forcibly deported from Ukraine to Russia; he alleged that the children were in fact being protected from Ukrainian bombs, while Ukraine itself was a haven for paedophiles and “child kennels”, i.e. surrogate motherhood; he also said that children receive a traditional education in Russia while in the West there is transgenderism and wokery.

Three MEPs reacted with fury, seeking signatures for an open letter to the President of the Parliament insisting that Marcel’s remarks were unacceptable and demanding that he be investigated as a Russian spy. They called for “a comprehensive analysis of the dissemination of Russian propaganda within the European Parliament.”

Joseph McCarthy would have been proud. These MEPs are emblematic of an EU which is disappearing ever further into the tunnel of dictatorship. They do not understand that the very purpose of a parliament is to be a place where elected representatives can say what they like without fear of harassment. These political commissars want a “democracy” in which everyone agrees with them – and anyone who disagrees is a traitor. In short, they are Stalinists.
