I’ve noticed that a lot of conservatives who are really outspoken about the hate speech laws that just passed in Scotland, are really silent about the hate speech legislation that’s passing right here in our own country.
In Scotland, it’s now illegal to “misgender” someone. Insane, obviously.
In the United States, hate speech legislation that’s aimed at outlawing “antisemitism” is passing throughout the country. Also insane and this should be obvious as well.
However, conservatives are silent on this because it’s being passed in red states and they’re afraid to be critical of the governors who are signing off on it. Ironically, they’re also afraid to criticize Israel, which is exactly what’s included in the state-sponsored definition of antisemitism that’s being used when this legislation is passed.
Before you start making excuses for these laws by saying that they outlaw threats or littering, I’ll tell you that threats and littering are already illegal. We don’t need laws that make them even *more* illegal.
Florida, South Dakota, Georgia, Virginia, Arkansas, and Texas have all adopted this legislation. Of course, it doesn’t criminalize misgendering anyone, but the definition of antisemitism is so broad, that one day it just might be.
When I was growing up, antisemitism simply meant discrimination against Jewish people. Then it became antisemitic to criticize Israel. Now it’s apparently antisemitic to say that Christ is King.
That being said, guess what else is in the state-sponsored definition of antisemitism? Jesus himself. You can’t say that the Jews had anything to do with His crucifixion according to this legislation. Obviously, this will lead to certain Bible verses being outlawed too.
It’s a really slippery slope and I don’t care how much you like the governors who are signing their names to this legislation, it’s unconstitutional and we all need to speak up against it.
