Interesting.
A co-founder of OpenAI, Ilya Sutskever, left the company to start his own venture, ‘Safe Superintelligence Inc.’
The company’s stated goal is to build a “safe superintelligence.”
“We are an American company with offices in Palo Alto and Tel Aviv, where we have deep roots and the ability to recruit top technical talent.”
Well, yes, it is true that the company has deep roots in Tel Aviv, so deep that it probably would be more fitting to call it an Israeli company rather than an American one.
All three founders are Jewish, and two are Israeli.
Ilya Sutskever:
- Born in the USSR, immigrated to Israel at the age of 5.
- Studied at the Open University of Israel.
- Hosted events at Tel Aviv University.
Daniel Gross:
- Born in Israel.
- Served in the IDF.
- Is a graduate of the Horev Yeshiva and an alumnus of the Eli pre-military academy.
The Eli pre-military academy is a religious Zionist academy located in an illegal settlement in the West Bank.
The goal of the academy is to promote religious Zionist teachings in Israel’s army.
This particular academy is notorious for many controversial quotes said by its rabbis.
These include:
“With the help of God, slavery will return.”
“The non-Jews will want to be our slaves.”
“The people around us have genetic problems.”
“Ask any Arab where he wants to be. He wants to be under occupation. Why? Because they have genetic problems — Yes, we are racists. We believe in racism.”
This is the academy that Gross graduated from before serving in the IDF.
It’s also worth noting that Netanyahu and Yoev Gallant both recently gave speeches at this academy.
So in summary, this “American” company that's meant to build a “Safe Superintelligence”, is more Israeli than it is American.
Two out of the three founders are Israeli, and one of its founders received education from an academy on an illegal Israeli settlement in the West Bank known for its extreme Jewish Supremacist rhetoric.
Oh and the company hasn’t publicly disclosed where they’ve received their funding from.
I’m sure this new “Safe Superintelligence” company has our best interests at heart
