Shamefully, as a Human Being, but never as a Palestinian: To the Children of North Gaza:
When Death Died, We Lived On
Part II: The Flames of Gaza’s North
Death walks among us, but we remain.
In the north of Gaza, the air burns with more than just fire. It burns with the lives of Palestinians, taken too soon, in the quiet darkness of the world’s neglect. Families are shattered, children cry out, and the earth trembles beneath the weight of endless bombs. The world sees the smoke, hears the explosions, but does not feel the agony. It does not witness the strength of those who remain, standing against the storm, holding onto life itself.
The flames rise, trying to consume all that we are. But we are more than homes and trees. We are more than stone and soil. We are the heartbeat of this land, and no fire, no bullet, can take that from us. They can burn our streets, bury our children under the rubble of their war, but they cannot burn away our spirit.
They come at night, under the cover of shadows, thinking they can erase us. They do not know that in the face of such darkness, we stand still. The fire that burns in Gaza’s north is not just destruction - it is also survival. For every life they take, a thousand more remain, holding on to hope and the earth beneath their feet.
We stand alone, it seems. Alone against the roar of tanks, the hiss of rockets, and the silence of the world that watches but does not act. But we do not give in. Death may stand over us, it may claim our loved ones, but it does not break us. It cannot. For in every heart that still beats, there is the pulse of survival, the quiet strength to endure.
They think they can erase us from the land, but this land is us. Its dust, its olive trees, its sea - we are bound to it as tightly as breath is to life. They try to silence us with fire and destruction, but even in death, our presence endures. The flames may take our homes, but they cannot take our will. And as long as we have that, we are alive.
Death will keep coming, thinking it can erase us. But it will fail, as it has failed before. We are not just clinging to life - we are standing in its full presence, unwavering. And as long as even one of us remains, standing in the ruins of what was once whole, we are not defeated.
The world may forget, may turn away. But we will not. We live on, even when death thinks it has won. We remain.
