BREAKING: Dr. Hossam Abu Safia, Director of Kamal Adwan Hospital:
Unfortunately, from yesterday until now, we have been facing the same scene: the same heavy bombing and targeting of Kamal Adwan Hospital. What was new yesterday was the arrival of ambulances coordinated through the DCO; however, these ambulances were targeted, resulting in the injury of two paramedics and the disabling of three out of four ambulances. Three of them are now completely out of service and currently stuck in the streets.
What made yesterday particularly alarming was that the intensive care unit was targeted for the first time by snipers, and all the hospital windows were hit. This indicates that snipers are stationed in elevated positions. Anyone moving within the hospital wings was at risk of being injured, creating a very dangerous situation for patients and staff.
Since yesterday, we have been providing medical care to some of the injured in the corridors.
From this morning until now, the bombing has resumed, impacting the hospital buildings, its surroundings, and courtyards. It is clear that the focus is on the hospital—its building, its surroundings, and anyone moving inside it.
Since yesterday, we have received approximately 29 injuries and five martyrs.
There are urgent maintenance needs, such as repairing generators, electricity, water supplies, and oxygen systems. Unfortunately, we cannot go outside to fix the damage caused by the attacks yesterday and today.
We are currently enduring difficult hours without electricity, oxygen, or water. The situation in the hospital is worsening and could turn into a graveyard for everyone inside.
We are appealing to the world for help and urgently calling for international protection for the healthcare system and its staff.
Until now, we have not received any guarantees or promises from anyone to intervene and protect the healthcare system.
This lack of support is why we find ourselves alone in this situation. We see no one in the world standing by our side, despite claims of humanity and democracy. What crime has the hospital committed while providing humanitarian services to injured women and children? We are being targeted in this way without anyone intervening or condemning these actions.
Unfortunately, there has been no condemnation or commitment to stop these barbaric and inhumane attacks.
