Not sure why people are freaking out over the enhanced 'Real ID' requirement for flying come May.
We've been told for years (since 2022) that this was finally being implemented. And BTW, most folks who have obtained a new driver's license since then already have one of them (denoted by a yellow star on the identification).
In fact, this change was mandated by the REAL ID Act back in 2005 - 20 years ago.
It's just now being implemented.
A few years back...SOMEBODY...was flooding the US with thousands and thousands of fake US drivers licenses.
Just from January to June of 2021, almost TWENTY THOUSAND fake drivers licenses were intercepted and stopped before reaching their destination.
Pretty sure there were at least a COUPLE HUNDRED THOUSAND that **weren't** caught and intercepted.
Real ID was announced shortly after that, I believe.
You **must** prove you are a US citizen to get one...
[The Democrats still basking in the warm glow of defeating the EEEEEVIL DONALD TRUMP BY KEEPING THE CITIZENSHIP QUESTION OFF THE 2020 CENSUS hardest hit! Tee hee hee!]
That they are going forward with the Real ID program for the entire country tells me several things:
1. The counterfeiters, whoever they are, have been UNABLE to mimic the new REAL ID's that millions of Americans already have.
2. Real ID is going to become a national US CITIZENSHIP ID CARD. **ONLY people who have proven they are a US citizen with clear documentation will be able to get one.
3. Millions of illegals being let in here & given Social Security numbers are about to HIT A WALL. NONE of them will able to get a Real ID, as they are unable to document their US citizenship.
4. Trump **clearly plans** to make Real ID, the national US citizenship card, the **required ID in order to vote in our elections**.
So. Illegals can't get one. Counterfeiters have come up empty trying to duplicate it, and they certainly won't be able to continue generating thousands of fake ID's and mailing them their comrades here in the States. And to vote in federal elections, you're going to have to show the card that proves you successfully documented your US citizenship.
And that's a beautiful thing.
