About 1 hour after I was informally deported by Israeli authorities, the U.S. State Department issued a statement so passive it could barely be called a response: 'Mr. Loffredo has left Israel.'

But what about everything that happened while I was there? They stayed silent when the Israeli army blindfolded, shackled, and kept me in solitary confinement, charging me as an 'enemy of the state' for practicing journalism.

The U.S. was briefed and updated immediately after my plane left—so they knew exactly what was going on. Why the silence?
