The U.S. Veto: A Hostile Stance that Undermines International Will and Provides Cover for Continued Genocide and Ethnic Cleansing

We strongly condemn the United States’ use of the veto in the UN Security Council against the resolution presented tonight, which called for an immediate ceasefire, the withdrawal of Israeli occupation forces from the Gaza Strip, and the rescue of our people from the humanitarian catastrophe created by the occupation—with U.S. backing—throughout the months of war, particularly in the north.

Once again, the United States demonstrates that it is a direct partner in the aggression against our people. It is complicit in crimes, killing children and women, destroying civilian life in Gaza, and is directly responsible for the genocide and ethnic cleansing, just like the occupation itself.

We demand that the United States stop its reckless and hostile policies if it truly seeks to end wars and achieve security and stability in the region, as claimed by its elected administration.

We also call on the international community to put an end to this American dominance over international will, which has brought nothing but wars, death, destruction, and chaos to the region and beyond.

We commend the United Nations General Assembly’s decision in support of UNRWA and its rejection of the Zionist fascist measures against the agency.

The Islamic Resistance Movement (Hamas) praises the UN General Assembly’s adoption of a resolution during its 10th Emergency Special Session, supporting the United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees (UNRWA) against criminal Zionist measures aimed at ending its work. These measures are part of the fascist occupation’s efforts to oppress our Palestinian people and eliminate their national cause.

The criminal Zionist enemy continues to implement policies and actions that exacerbate the humanitarian catastrophe in the Gaza Strip. It commits the crime of deliberate starvation against more than two million people, obstructs the entry and delivery of humanitarian aid to innocent civilians, and targets aid workers for killing. It has also deliberately murdered humanitarian and UN organization staff, with the death toll of UNRWA staff alone reaching 203 martyrs, killed by the occupation’s shelling and bullets.

The international community and the United Nations are called upon to reinforce this UN resolution by taking measures to put an end to the ongoing violations committed by the fascist occupation government against humanitarian and UN organizations and their staff. They must also confront the criminal decisions and legislation issued by the occupation, which seek to criminalize UNRWA and pave the way for a reality that undermines our people’s political and humanitarian rights to return and aid.

We welcome the adoption of a United Nations resolution affirming the Palestinian people’s right to self-determination and call for translating UN resolutions into practical steps to end the occupation and enable our people to establish their state.

The Islamic Resistance Movement (Hamas) welcomes the adoption of a resolution by the United Nations General Assembly affirming the Palestinian people’s right to self-determination, with the support of 172 nations. We consider this resolution an expression of global solidarity, belief in the justice of the Palestinian cause, and widespread rejection of the occupation and the criminal policies led by the United States administration, which denies the rights of our Palestinian people.

We call on the international community, the United Nations, and its institutions to go beyond the oppressive American will and exert pressure to translate these resolutions into practical steps that halt aggression, end the occupation weighing on our people’s chest, and enable them to determine their own destiny and establish their independent state with Jerusalem as its capital.
