This is not the ah ha you think it is.

It’s a metaphor, brother.

We live in a fallen world. The flesh belongs to this world. Your soul does not. Your soul inhabits your flesh - something only procreation and God can do.

In the Bible, Jesus uses the metaphor of "killing the flesh" and "being born again" to describe a profound spiritual transformation:

"Killing the Flesh" & "Being Born Again" :

- Killing the Flesh: Metaphorically renouncing sinful nature for a life aligned with God's will. No literal killing, just symbolic death of old self.

- Being Born Again: A spiritual rebirth through faith in Jesus, symbolizing a new life and identity. Involves repentance, faith, and baptism as an outward sign.

Spiritual transformation, not physical.

Satan is king of this fallen world. This is his “glory” and our flesh is tempted by Satan all the days of our lives- that’s why all sin is sin of the flesh.

Sins & Consequences:
- Pride: Isolates, stunts growth, can lead to reckless decisions.
- Greed: Devours joy, fosters stress, might cause health issues.
- Lust: Obsesses, objectifies, risks health and relationships.
- Envy: Breeds bitterness, blocks contentment, may incite harm.
- Gluttony: Overindulgence leads to health decline, spiritual void.
- Wrath: Destroys peace, can result in violence or self-harm.
- Sloth: Kills ambition, neglects life, risks health.
- Murder: Ends life, destroys community, burdens the soul.
- Perversion: Erodes morals, can lead to dangerous behaviors.
- Drunkard: Ruins health, relationships, spiritual peace.
- Homosexuality: Internal conflict, societal rejection, potential harm from discrimination.
- Theft: Erodes trust, invites legal consequences.
- Adultery: Shatters trust, can lead to disease or violence.
- Idolatry: Misplaces devotion, leads to spiritual emptiness.
- Slander/Lying: Destroys credibility, can cause real harm.
- Covetousness: Never satisfies, drives unethical actions.

Fruit of the Spirit vs. Fruit of the Flesh:

Spirit's Fruit (Galatians 5:22-23):
- Love, Joy, Peace, Patience, Kindness, Goodness, Faithfulness, Gentleness, Self-control. These are manifestations of the Holy Spirit's work, promoting a life aligned with God's will.

Flesh's Fruit (Galatians 5:19-21):
- Sexual Immorality, Impurity, Debauchery, Idolatry, Witchcraft, Hatred, Discord, Jealousy, Fits of Rage, Selfish Ambition, Dissensions, Factions, Envy, Drunkenness, Orgies. These stem from our sinful nature, influenced by worldly desires and Satan's temptations.

The Internal Battle:
- The flesh naturally leans towards sin because it belongs to this fallen world and isn’t going with you to Eternity, while the spirit, renewed through Christ, aims for righteousness and will go with you to Eternity.
- With Jesus, and filled with the Holy Spirit, the spirit doesn't inherently want to sin but faces constant temptation from the flesh.

The Bible:
- It's the "Basic Instructions Before Leaving Earth" - (inspired) Word of God guiding us to live rightly, providing wisdom of this world to navigate Satan’s challenges, strength to overcome the flesh’s desires, and the promise of eternal life through faith in Christ.

To do that - you will need to “kill the flesh”. It’s a metaphor.

To do that you need Jesus.
