Microsoft co-founder Bill Gates is bracing for potential trouble when fellow billionaire Elon Musk completes his acquisition of Twitter, saying the free-speech advocate could make misinformation more prevalent by failing to properly police comment on the social media platform.
“He actually could make it worse,” Gates said of Musk on Wednesday in a Wall Street Journal interview. He added that the South African has a “mind-blowing”track record of building successful businesses at Tesla and SpaceX by being bolder than competitors and “really showing them up.”
“I kind of doubt that will happen this time, but we should have an open mind and never underestimate Elon,” Gates said. “What’s his goal? Where he talks about the openness, how does he feel about something that says vaccines kill people or that Bill Gates is tracking people? Is that one of the things he thinks should be spread? So it’s still… It’s not totally clear what he’s going to do.”
Gates argued that governments and social media companies failed to fully squash false commentary related to the Covid-19 pandemic. “When you don’t have the trusted leaders speaking out about vaccines, it’s pretty hard for the platforms to work against that,” he said. “So I think we have a leadership problem, and we have a platform problem.”

British lawmakers have called on billionaire entrepreneur Elon Musk to give testimony about his planned $44 billion purchase of Twitter, asking him to detail his vision for the social media giant.
The request was made public early on Wednesday morning by MP Julian Knight, who chairs the UK’s Digital, Culture, Media and Sport Committee. Writing in a letter dated April 29, Knight said the appearance would give Musk a chance to discuss his plans for the platform “in more depth.”
“My committee has noted your proposed acquisition of Twitter and we are interested in the developments you propose,” the letter said, adding: “I know you have expressed your wish that critics remain on Twitter and this may present an opportunity to address any critiques in public.”
In a separate statement, Knight went on to say that lawmakers are “keen to learn more about how Mr. Musk will balance his clear commitment to free speech with new obligations to protect Twitter’s users from online harms.”
Elon Musk told the Associated Press that while he is “honored” by the invitation, “it would be premature at this time to accept” given that Twitter’s shareholders have not yet voted to approve the multi-billion-dollar deal.
Knight’s letter comes as British MPs review “online safety” legislation that would give regulators sweeping powers to clamp down on social media and other internet platforms. The bill contains a measure that would force larger sites to allow users to verify their identities and provide them the choice of avoiding interactions with unverified accounts.
Musk has previously stated that he would like Twitter to “authenticate all humans,”though he did not elaborate on how that might be done.
In 2018, the same parliamentary committee issued a similar invite to then-Facebook CEO Mark Zuckerberg (the company has since renamed itself Meta) to answer questions during a probe into ‘fake news’ online, but the executive declined to show up.

Well folks, you don’t have to believe me, you heard it from Nunes’ mouth that Trump encouraged Elon to buy Twitter. Trump and his camp support Elon and his mission.
Just as I suspected and laid out for you all over the past few weeks, the entire timeline reeks of white hat involvement. It was calculated, methodical, strategical, well timed to maximize damage and enemy exposure, and captivated a massive global audience. Moves and countermoves were flawlessly projected and executed and the enemy not only lost control of one of their most powerful brainwashing assets, but also exposed their own corruption whilst under the world spotlight.
Notice how Trump and his team waited until AFTER Twitter was fully secure, before going public that they were involved.
Now does it make more sense why the left-wing media complex went scorched earth on Elon and declared this as the greatest threat to democracy? Why the Biden admin went full blown authoritarian dictator and created the Ministry of Truth? Because they knew Trump was involved in this move. They knew Elon was working with Trump to some extent. They knew this path leads to the end of their reign.
All the while, Trump is off screen, in the shadows. Just quietly working on TruthSocial, saying he’s not coming back to Twitter, etc. Giving off the OPTICS that he is distant from the entire situation. When in reality, he was advising it. And in all likelihood, based on the success and the Modus Operandi, it’s clear to me that Elon had significant operational help from Trump and military assets.
Now, why did Elon and Trump ensure that Trump seemed distant from the operation? TO TARGET THE NORMIES.
If Trump would have been linked to this deal before it was finalized, the centrists and leftists would have immediately discredited it and be less likely to pay attention. Because they are, quite literally, programmed to despise anything associated with Trump. By Trump appearing uninvolved, the story was followed by centrists and leftists as well, and allowed for this operation to result in a broader range of normies waking up to the reality of censorship online and the war on truth.
Conservatives are already all too aware of this reality, so there was no need to try and target that base. This was designed to penetrate centrist/left-wing echo chambers.
You’re welcome to believe all of this happened on accident and just so happened to be massively beneficial to Trump and his political campaign. I’m more inclined to believe that this was a meticulously calculated normie-waking operation, specifically designed to target centrists and leftists. Coordinated and advised by Trump and white hats.
Keep in mind Elon is the US MIL’s highest paid contractor… and the US MIL supports Trump.
