JUST IN: It is no longer a corridor; it has turned into a full-fledged military base in every sense of the word.The Netzarim military area extends 8 kilometers in length and 7 kilometers in width, covering an area of 56 square kilometers. It contains a cellular communication antenna belonging to the “Cellcom” company, along with water and electricity lines. Temporary detention prisons and interrogation rooms have been established there, in addition to permanent housing complexes for the battalion command soldiers and its combat company.
Currently, trenches are being dug around the compound to protect the base, which is bustling with construction workers and engineering officers. An important part of this base lies between it and the beach, where there is an advanced coastal barrier. The army hopes that a large number of Palestinian residents will soon cross it toward the southern part of the Gaza Strip as part of increased pressure on the Jabalia area.
This base, built on the ruins of a vast number of destroyed homes that have been completely cleared and erased, is now fully prepared to quietly transform into a settlement. The current right-wing government hopes that a prisoner exchange deal will be delayed long enough for Israeli prisoners to die, thus fulfilling Israeli ministers’ dreams without any cost.
Importantly, the same concept is currently being applied in the Philadelphi Corridor using a “copy-paste” method, where a third corridor is being created to separate Jabalia from Gaza City.
