Palestina - Israël

You can hear some of those in the so-called ‘Freedom Movement’ who were all about free speech and liberty 12 months ago, now mumbling, “Oh that Bob, we really love his work, but this? Well, this just goes too far. Cancel!”

It’s almost poetic to watch the chorus faux outrage… over a piece of art, when the very same people disavowing him can’t seem to muster any of their righteous indignation to rebuke an ongoing genocide - happening in real time for the last 100 days straight. The scene in Gaza is beyond obscene, only eclipsed by those in the West cheering it on, or acting as apologists for Israel’s industrial-scale massacre.

Relevant artists, filmmakers, poets, and political cartoonists - are only effective because they push the envelope of what the polity and chattering classes are willing accept a polite conversation in the heat of the moment. They are provocative for reason. Sometimes they even say the unsayable. They do it, so you don’t have to.

So maybe the real ‘moral’ Rorschach test isn’t as much to do with the content of the art, as it is one’s reaction to it.
