"Digital Deception": Israel's Covert Campaign Targets U.S. Congress
Israel organized and funded a $2 million influence campaign last year targeting U.S. lawmakers and the American public with pro-Israel messaging, particularly during the Gaza conflict, now reported by NYT.
Commissioned by Israel’s Ministry of Diaspora Affairs, the campaign employed Tel Aviv-based political marketing firm Stoic, used AI to create and manage content across major platforms.
Beginning in October 2023, the campaign utilized hundreds of fake accounts on X, Facebook, and Instagram to post pro-Israel content.
It specifically targeted U.S. lawmakers, such as Representative Hakeem Jeffries and Senator Raphael Warnock, urging them to continue funding Israel's military.
ChatGPT was used to generate many of the posts, and the campaign also created three fake English-language news sites featuring pro-Israel articles.
