BREAKING: Yediot News Publishes the investigation regarding what happened in Kibbutz - “We failed”.
340 Palestinian fighters, including 100 elite members from the Central Gaza Brigade, managed to take control of Kibbutz Be'eri in the Gaza envelope.
From 06:30 to 06:45:
The attack began with fighters moving from Gaza to Kibbutz Be'eri.
From 06:45 to 09:00:
The ground assault on Be'eri started, with the first fighters breaching the kibbutz boundaries from two directions. A battle ensued with the army's readiness platoon members and kibbutz residents who joined the fight.
From 09:00 to 13:30:
The fighters regained full control of the kibbutz. During this period, Israeli forces arrived at the kibbutz but faced casualties and fatalities, prompting the remaining forces to retreat, leaving the residents alone. In this phase, 101 residents were killed, and 33 were captured. The report did not specify the number of Israeli army and police casualties.
From 13:30 to 22:00:
Israeli forces began massing at the kibbutz entrances but hesitated to storm it due to potential outcomes. At 16:15, the "Lightning" Brigade (99) took position in Be'eri and started organizing the combat coordination for entering the kibbutz, with around 700 Israeli soldiers, air force, and armored units involved.
From 22:00 to 05:00:
Israeli forces executed a takeover of the kibbutz area. By the end of this phase, the Israeli army had regained control of the kibbutz, resulting in the deaths of 100 Palestinians and the capture of 18, whom the army claimed were fighters, though they were a mix of civilians and combatants.
During the operation, the army prioritized evacuating wounded soldiers over civilians and targeted a house and its surroundings where hostages were held. Four tank shells were fired, killing several kibbutz residents and fighters inside.
A preliminary Israeli army investigation into the failure at Kibbutz Be'eri on October 7 reveals much, with more yet to be disclosed.
