Palestina - Israël

A repeating theme throughout history is the polarization of actual events into sides that are purely “good” vs sides that are purely “evil”. The reality is that humans have the capacity for both.

The refusal to recognize that given the right set of circumstances, YOU TOO are capable of unspeakable violence actually increases the likelihood of it happening. If you don’t bring that shadow part of yourself into conscious self knowledge, it doesn’t cease to exist, it waits for an opportunity to come forth.

War does not occur in a vacuum. There is always a history of past events, and narratives on both sides that color how each side sees the truth. When you excise all malevolence from “your” side’s history, leaving only valor and morality, while exaggerating the atrocities of the other side, you actually give yourself a free pass to “destroy the monsters” on the other side. In other words, you can now commit any atrocity that you have condemned your enemies for while maintaining your false moral superiority.

The more fulsome your understanding of history, the better you are able to put current events in context. If you are tired of having your emotions jerked around by narratives on both sides, I recommend watching the documentary “Tantura”. tv.apple.com/ca/movie/tantu…

The Israeli military has urged over 1 million people to leave their homes in Gaza City and urgently relocate to the south of Gaza, in a move the UN said would cause “devastating humanitarian consequences.”
The UN Office of the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs and the Department of Safety and Security in Gaza (OCHA oPt) was notified just before midnight local time that “the entire population of Gaza north of Wadi Gaza should relocate to southern Gaza within the next 24 hours,” UN spokesman Stephane Dujarric said in a statement to multiple media outlets on Friday morning.

The Israel Defense Forces (IDF) has confirmed the evacuation order, calling it a “humanitarian step.” It did not mention any specific deadline, with a spokesperson acknowledging it would take “some time.”
“The IDF calls on all residents of Gaza City to evacuate their homes, move south for their protection and settle in the area south of the Gaza River,” the military said in a post on X. “This evacuation is for your personal safety. It will be possible to return to Gaza City only after a notification confirming this.”

The IDF vowed to “continue to operate significantly in Gaza City in the coming days” and has urged civilians to “distance yourself from the Hamas terrorists who use you as a human shield.”

The UN official emphasized that it is “impossible for such a movement to take place without devastating humanitarian consequences.”

“This amounts to approximately 1.1 million people. The same order applied to all UN staff and those sheltered in UN facilities – including schools, health centers and clinics,”
the spokesperson said.
“The United Nations strongly appeals for any such order, if confirmed, to be rescinded avoiding what could transform what is already a tragedy into a calamitous situation,” Dujarric added.

As of Thursday night, the number of people already forced to flee their homes amid the ongoing Israeli airstrikes has increased to 423,378, or roughly 21% of the entire population of Gaza, according to the latest flash update by the OCHA. About two-thirds of the internally displaced persons are taking shelter in facilities operated by the United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees (UNRWA).

Hamas militants launched Operation ‘Al-Aqsa Flood’ raid last Saturday with a barrage of rockets fired from Gaza before advancing rapidly into Israeli territory, storming multiple towns and villages. Reports of shocking brutality soon followed, with at least 260 Israeli and foreign civilians slaughtered at a music festival and an unknown number captured by the militants.

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu declared a state of war on Sunday, as IDF troops were deployed to clear Israeli towns and villages of Hamas fighters. Israeli planes have conducted constant airstrikes on Gaza ever since.

At least 1,300 Israelis have been killed and more than 3,000 wounded, according to figures released by the Israeli government on Friday. More than 1,500 Palestinians have been killed and over 6,000 more wounded, according to the Palestinian Health Ministry.

Over 1,500 people, including hundreds of women and children, have been killed and thousands more injured in Gaza since Israel launched its retaliatory campaign against Hamas militants in response to the deadly raid last week, Palestinian Health Ministry spokesperson Ashraf Al-Qudra said on Thursday.

“The patients and wounded in Gaza’s hospitals are laying on the floor as there are no beds in the ICU units, with patients piling up in front of the operation rooms,”the health official told Al Mayadeen, adding that the Palestinian health sector is on the brink of collapse amid the Israeli siege.

“We are in a critical situation,” Al-Qudra added in a separate interview with AP. “Ambulances can’t get to the wounded, the wounded can’t get to intensive care, the dead can’t get to the morgue.”
“Medicines are dwindling and have almost run out,”
Qudra added. Health officials have introduced rationing to save fuel, directing electricity from generators toward the most essential hospital wards.

Gazans have been cut off from supplies of food, water, and electricity, as Israel declared war on Hamas and imposed a “full siege” of the territory after Saturday’s surprise assault killed more than 1,300 people in Israel.

As of Thursday night, the death toll in Gaza stood at 1,537 people, including around 500 children, with another 6,612 injured, according to the Palestinian Health Ministry. The health official noted that the casualties will continue to rise, as entire families are being buried under the rubble of their houses, while those rescued risk dying in overcrowded hospitals.

The IDF have dropped more than 6,000 munitions on Gaza since Saturday, leveling entire neighborhoods and driving 423,378 people or over 20% of the population out of their homes, according to the UN Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs.

The only way, militairy?
