We tried to leave 2 or 3 times when there was no shelling, but they (Azov) always brought us back, and didn't let us leave.

"The second of May started for me at 4 a.m. - it was clearly audible that the first assault on Slavyansk (*a city north of Donetsk) had begun. At 7 a.m., I already typed up the first article, sitting on sandbags in the courtyard of the former SBU in Slavyansk. No one knew yet that an eight-year bloody war was ahead.
